This was a good read year of reading books for me. I think the pandemic afforded more time to read.
This year we read more outloud as a family together , which is a practice I would like for us to continue. It was a lot of fun to read through the Narnias together and talk about them at the dinner table (or when tucking in to bed).
Of the 65 books read, different books were impacting and enjoyable in different ways and in different seasons of this interesting year. Theologically, I think Jeremiah Burrough’s “The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment” was really insightful and helpful–as the Puritans usually are. The Paton autobiography was particularly inspiring .
If could only recommend one to read from this list–besides the Bible!–I would say you should read through the “Wonderful Works of God” by Herman Bavinck. This is a one volume systematic theology written at a lay-level. It really enjoyable to read, accessible, insightful, and helpful in understanding the story of Scripture.
